Tonic Studios | Electric guitar card with Nuvo drops

Today I am back with another card that features the Nuvo Crystal Drops from Tonic, this time I wanted to create a masculine card using also a die from the Musical collection from Tonic, called Electric Guitar.

For the background I used the Sew Pretty Pinhole Nesting Layering Circle die set. All of them, but not at once! I did a couple of dies at the time, making sure to attach them securely on to the card with low tack tape (using two pieces of tape at two opposite ends of the die).
That created an interesting texture as well as provided me with a good guideline for the Nuvo Drops, which in this case are done with the Liquid Mercury drops.

I did a bit of paper piecing for the guitar, but left those two lines so that you could see the red coming through. I inked the background using colour sprays, Dylusions and Tim Holtz Distress.

The message is from my Everyday Tab Messages stamps set (available from Craftie Charlie here).

Tonic Studios | Nuvo Crystals drops used as stencil paint

Today just a quick and simple card that I made for the New Nuvo Crystals shows for Tonic Studios  at Create and Craft USA.

I die cut one of the Simply Screens Clematis Vine out of thick paper and then used it as a stencil for the colouring. To colour it in, I used two colours of the New Nuvo Crystal Drops, English Mustard and Rhubarb Crumble.

I put some of the drops on a piece of acetate to use as a palette, and then I used a soft make up sponge to dabb small amounts of the the Drops through the stencil created into the card. I make sure to blend in the colours both in the make do palette and on the card.
Once I lifted the stencil I added the drops in the centre, dropping first a drop of the Rhubarb Crumble and then a tiny one of the Mustard one.

Then I die cut the message - from the Have a Beautiful Day Circle Frame - out of white card and then coloured it using the make up sponge and just Rhubarb Crumble.

I hope you have a beautiful day!

Tonic Studios | Floral card using Nuvo Crystal drops and floral dies

Last week I had the chance to play with the Nuvo Crystal Drops from Tonic in preparation for the shows at Create and Craft USA. And I will be honest, I was truly surprised at how good and versatile these are. You see, I have used some similar products in the past, but I have never achieved a good result. With these, straight out of the bottle, bam, perfect 3d dome effects every time!

But making beautifully domed embellishments is not the only thing you can make with them, you can actually use them as paints. In fact all the colour elements of this card have had the Nuvo drops treatment over them.

The obvious use for the Nuvo Crystal drops is to add three dimensional dome like dots, perfect for the centres of the flowers. Here I used Ivory Seashell that creates perfect pearls of practically any size you would want! (I would say that 1cm or 1/2" in diameter is about as big as I would go.)

But I also used the Nuvo Drops to colour in the die cut flowers, which were die cut out of plain white card using the Entwining Trellis Buttercup and Daisy set. I used Violet Galaxy for the flowers and Bottle Green for the inside bits. I used a make up sponge I dabb small amounts of the Bottle Green Nuvo Drop making sure that I blended it nicely all over the card.

The green circle was die cut out of a green card, but the shade was wrong for the green on the flowers that I already done. Using the Bottle Green Nuvo Drop i covered the whole area.
You can see the beautiful pearlescent sheen through out, thanks to the fact that both the Violet and the Green are pearlescent drops.

The Cherish the moment is part of the Sew Pretty  Cherish the Moment Rectangle Frame
and the circle of the Have a Beautiful Day Circle Sew pretty set.

If you like to put pearls and enamel stickers, you should give the Nuvo Drops a try!

Crafty Beggars in the house

On the 22nd of March, at 8pm I was on the Crafty Beggars show on the Community Channel with Vegan Cakery and Paul Adamiec.

I talked about how I use die cutting to recycle old maps, books and more for my crafty projects! It was a fun day back in October when we recorded it, but I still have fond memories from it.

Tonic | Rocking Horse New Baby Card

Another baby card I made for last weeks shows at Create And Craft USA for Tonic Studios using this time the rocking horse.

In this card, the horse (and the whole soft turquoise circle) does rotate, creating a rocking horse.

Between the layers, either side of the white circle that has a small aperture just above the centre, there are two pennies glued to each other with a circle foam pad.

The sentiment is from the same Baby Rococo collection from Tonic. I just put a bit of washi tape on the back to hold the glitter. Yes, washi isn't the strongest tape so some glitter may fall over, but this card has been to manhandled quite heavily and still has the glitter perfectly in place. If you are concerned that it will fall off just use the red tape on the back.

Tonic | Music notes birthday card

This is a quick card I made last week using a couple of  Tonic Studios dies for the shows at Create and Craft USA. I rarely do monochrome cards using just black and greys, but I quite like this one.

The musical sign is the Treble Clef from the Music Rococo collection.
The pattern in the background was created using the Simply Screens Honeycomb die.
The sentiment is from my Big Sentiments stamp set.

Tonic | Special delivery card

Another of my quick cards made last week for the Tonic Studios Baby Pick of the week at Create and Craft USA.

I simply used the gorgeous Special Delivery die and die cut it using satin mirror board, really thick (about 300gsm) but using either the Big Shot Plus or the Crossover (I am sure the Tangerine will be the same!) was not a problem!
The little hot air balloons are cut from the Nursery Mobile die also from the same collection.

Just to show how versatile die cutting is. A die for babies can be used for something really different.

Tonic | Sew Pretty Quick and Easy Card

Today I am sharing another card I made last week for the Tonic Studios shows I did at Create and Craft USA using the new Sew Pretty frames. This one features the Cherish the Moment Rectangle Frame.

I went down the route of super clean and simple! I only added a stamped message - this one is from my stamp set Large Sentiments Everyday Messages | CICSA6143 - and a button from the Tonic Patchwork Perfection Square Stitch Die and Emboss Set

I die cut three of the larger Rectangles frames. One for the back is scored at about 1/2" or 1 cm approx. and attached to a plain one by just gluing that flap created to the back.

Then I took the third Rectangle die cut and I used the pin holes to create a simple pattern embroidered across. Then I attached that panel on to the front panel that matches perfectly to disguise all the threads on the back.

I love the texture you get with some threads and these Sew Pretty frames make it so quick and easy! And with all those pin holes, there are so many possible patterns!

Have a beautiful day!

Tonic | Have a beautiful day card!

Today I would like to share this card I made using the Tonic Patchwork Perfection Square Stitch Die and Emboss Set and the Sew Pretty frame, in this case the Have a Beautiful Day circle Frame.

I die cut the spool out of paper that imitates wood finish and wrapped around the spool some embroidery thread.
The Large circle die cut on the back and the message are from the Have a Beautiful Day circle Frame. The message is die cut out of card and then double embossed with Nuvo Silver embossing powder. A simple technique that makes the die cuts all pretty!

Have a beautiful day!

Tonic | Sew pretty simple card

I am back with another way of using the Circle Sew Pretty frame that I made for the Tonic Studios shows last week.

It features the new Sew Pretty frames, again the Have a Beautiful Day circle Frame, but this time I didnt do any embroidery to it, just left the pin holes on its own.

That paper piercing effect is gorgeous! I really like the delicate nature of those pin holes.
For the ombre background I used distress inks, blended them well and then die cut them using the layering frame die from the same die set.
The gorgeous scallop circle die? Also included in the same set!
The sentiment is also from the same die set.

Finally, I just used the Nuvo Drops Gloss Dandelion and Pumpkin to add detail to the centre of the flowers. I am really impressed with them, they hold their shape completely and they dry very quickly (compared to other similar products).

Tomorrow, I will be back on Create and Craft USA, for timing check their schedule here.

Tonic | Sew Pretty Frames

Earlier this week I started a new craft adventure: I was on Create and Craft USA representing the fabulous Tonic Studios

I have been using Tonic products since they started. My all time favourite paper cutting tool is a 12 years old guillotine from Tonic. ( I got it back when they partnered up with Do Crafts creating their X cut range. But the new ones are identical just with orange details instead of blue.)

You know by now that I love die cutting, and always have admired their intricate and innovative designs, so when they asked me to represent them for some shows at Create and Craft USA of courseI was delighted!

This is one of the first cards I made for the Tonic Studios. It features the new Sew Pretty frames, in this case the Have a Beautiful Day circle Frame.

Each set comes with four dies: one sentiment, an intricate aperture cutting die and two matting and layering (or frame creating) dies.

The innovation of these dies is that they have tiny prick holes in them so they perforate the card just so slightly that creates a beautiful detail that can be embroidered, faux embroidered with a pen, or left on its own as the pin hole detail is so pretty.

For some one like me that started making cards embroidering on card, this was a sort of a full circle thing.

If you would like to see some demos, you can catch the shows on repeat for a week (till next Wednesday) here.

I simply die cut the aperture die out of white card, as well as the message and the needle (from the Tonic Patchwork Perfection Square Stitch Die and Emboss Set). Using three shades of embroidery thread, I went from pin hole to pin hole creating this pretty effect without any hard work.

As you know, I love clean and crisp cards! I hope you like this card and the new range Sew Pretty range from Tonic.

Oh, and I will be on Create and Craft USA next Monday and Tuesday!
