Tonic Studios | Patterned Panels Distress Inks background

Well, I did say I love those Tonic Patterned Panels and Beautiful Blooms, didn't I? Well this one - the Floral Blooms - was crying out to be on top of a distressed inks background.

I used:
Tonic Patterned Panels Die Set - Floral Blooms USA | UK
Tonic Patterned Panels Die Set - Budding Vine - USA | UK
Tonic Beautiful Blooms - Sunburst Gazania 1288E USA | UK
Tonic Beautiful Blooms - Gerbera Daisy 1287E - USA | UK
Tonic Entwining Trellis Die Set – Delicate Daisy – UK

Distress inks in Mustard Seed, carved Pumpkin and Candied Apple.

To create the background I die cut three bases of the card first using the warm grey card twice using the outer die from the Budding Vine. - USA | UK Then I scored one of them at about 1cm from the short edge and use that area created to attach it to the back of the identical die cut panel.

I then took the spare panel and inked all though making sure there was some areas more yellow, others more orange and some red ones as well. Once I was happy, I spray it with water to create the subtle bleach effect that distress inks will give you.
Then I attached it to the to the front of the card. (You could make it as the front if you don't get ink all over the back of the distressed as I tend to do.)

Then I die cut the floral pattern USA | UK - out of white card and then after the outer die using the same one (Budding Vine) as before. (I find it easier this way round as it is more difficult to keep the inner die in position even with tape if first die cut the outer edge.)

To create the flower, I die cut six Gerberas USA | UK - using good quality paper. Then using a combination of inks I coloured them. (You can see it step by step here.) Then I I shaped them using a soft foam mat and the large ball tool. I attached them all together and in the centre I placed two die cut Daisies from the Trellis set UK and a circle.
Finally I die cut the leaves - from the Gazania set USA | UK - and layered them up and attach it all to the front of the card.

I left it without a message, I will either add one just before sending or leave it without it.

And there it is. Gorgeous floral blooms that will brighten anyone's day!

Tonic Studios | Damask patterned panel and floral friends card

Today I am sharing a card to celebrate friends. I let you on a "secret". I love my friends! And I loved making this card. It featured some of my most favourite dies from the recent releases from Tonic, the Panel Dies and the Beautiful Blooms, plus that gorgeous sentiment!

I used:
Tonic Patterned Panels Die - Vibrant Damask - USA | UK
Tonic Patterned Panels Die Set - Classic Quatrefoil - USA | UK
Tonic Beautiful Blooms - Sunburst Gazania 1288E USA | UK
Tonic Rococo Die and Stamp Set Hearts - Vine, Floral and Paisley - USA | UK
Tonic Rococo Die and Stamp Set Heart - Vine USA | UK
Tonic Indulgence Die & Stamp Set – Friends Are Forever - USA | UK
Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss - Ebony Black - USA | UK

Card in warm grey, soft green, hot, mid and soft pink, black.

I die cut the base of the card first using the warm grey card twice using the outer die from the Classic Quatrefoil. Then I scored one of them at about 1cm from the top and use that top area to attach it to the back of the identical die cut panel.
Then I die cut the damask pattern out of light green card and then after the outer die using the same one (Quatrefoil) as before. I find it easier this way round as it is more difficult to keep the inner die in position even with tape if first die cut the outer edge.

I die cut all the other elements using the different die sets, shaped a bit the flowers, layered them up and then attach the sentiment. Finally, a bit of Crystal Drops in Ebony Black for the centre of the flowers. Simple but quite strong combo!

And, by the way, all the Patterned panels will fit nicely on a American A2 envelope or European C6 envelope (for A6 cards).

Anyway, I hope you like it!

Tonic Studios | Sunburst Gazania Love Card

Another card using the Bautiful Blooms Gazania from Tonic Studios Beautiful Blooms - USA | UK.

I used:

Beautiful Blooms - Sunburst Gazania 1288E USA | UK
Beautiful Blooms - Gerbera Daisy 1287E - USA | UK
Beautiful Blooms - Apple Blossom 1290E USA | UK
Simply Screens - Clematis Vines - USA | UK
Miniature Sentiments - Sent with Love 1254E USA | UK
Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss - Bubblegum 672N -  USA | UK

And coral, light coral and green paper; and white and black card.

I die cut first the screen, then the edge (also from the same Simply screens die set) and then place the paper inside the card.
Then, I die cut all the different elements and layered them on the front.
The sentiment says Sent with Love, but i trimmed the Sent With to make the sentiment fit in better on the card.

Finally I added the button and the Nuvo Crystal Drops in the centre of the panels.

I hope you like it!

Tonic Studios | Sweet Melia Hello Card

I really do love these flower dies from the Tonic Studios Beautiful blooms collection.
This one is. Similar version to the one I made for the Win and Tonic blog, but I changed a couple of things.

I used:

Beautiful Blooms - Sweet Melia 1286E USA | UK
Beautiful Blooms - Woodland Aster 1285E - USA | UK
Trellis Circle Base Die set 489e - USA | UK

Nuvo Embellishment Mousse - Black Ash 811N USA | UK
Nuvo Embellishment Mousse - Spring Green 808N USA | UK
Nuvo Crystal Drops - English Mustard  685N USA | UK
Nuvo Crystal Drops - Rhubarb Crumble 679N USA | UK

Sentiment Stamp: Big Sentiments, PICSA6068 Paula Pascual for Sweet Dixie

Yupo paper 110gsm

The first thing I did was to create a template using the circle Trellis using Yupo paper. Its a synthetic paper that is thin enough to be die cut - though it will depend on the die cutting machine and the intricacy of the die. Then I used the Nuvo Black Ash Mousse to colour through using a cosmetic sponge dabbing through the stencil on to the card. I trim the piece of card to fit in the font of the card.

I used the green mousse to colour the base card, I added the die cut flowers and the swirl.
For the centre of the flower I used the Rhubarb Crumble crystal drop and then while still wet I added a dot with English Mustard.

Finally I stamped the sentiment with black ink.

I hope you like it!

Tonic Studios | Win & Tonic Gazania Card

Today is the first day of Win and ToniI c blog! It is a challenge blog that every month will have  have a prize given by Tonic Studios. Wether you are UK based or not, you can participate. To read more about it and participate click here.

How exciting!

For this first challenge, we have a Anything goes theme, so I thought I would share this card in which I use several sets of Tonic dies as well as the gorgeous Embellishment Mousses. The full tutorial is at the bottom of the post.

I used from Tonic Studios:

Beautiful Blooms - Sunburst Gazania 1288E USA | UK
Beautiful Blooms - Magnolia Flora 1289E - USA | UK
Beautiful Blooms - Woodland Aster 1285E - USA | UK
Trellis Circle Base Die set 489e - USA | UK
Nuvo Embellishment Mousse - Black Ash 811N USA | UK
Nuvo Embellishment Mousse - Spring Green 808N USA UK
Nuvo Embellishment Mousse - Peony Pink 800N USA UK

Sentiment Stamp: Big Sentiments, PICSA6068 Paula Pascual for Sweet Dixie

Plus Card in white, hot pink and green and glues.

Here is how I made it:

First I die cut the Trellis Circle Base Die - USA | UK - positioning it hanging out of the card. I almost always secure my dies with low tack tape, and for this one its essential.

Scotch Removable Magic tape is the low tack tape I have been using for over the last twelve years. Its the only one that has never let me down.
I run it through my die cutting machine - as it is an A6 folded card - it will fit through any standard 6" wide machine.

And this is one of the tricks I have been using lately to remove all the bits, a humble lint roller that I get from H&M for under a pound. This will also pick up all the paper crushing thin lines that you get when die cutting.

(This is because when die cutting you actually don't cut but rather crush the paper or card, hence you create a the tiny sliver of paper that is just under the "blade" which is hard to remove in some cases. The Lint roller removes them really nicely.)

Using the middle circle die from the trellis set to create a mask. I used a full adhesive sticky noteThen using thin washi tape I masked all four sides to create a thin white edge all around.

Then using a foam pad and applicator I applied Mousse Spring Green USA | UK - dabbing the mousse to create texture.

Once dry, I removed first the tape revealing the white edge, and then the sticky note.

I die cut the centre of the circle using the smallest circle die on the Trellis set.

Then I die cut two white Sunburst Gazanias USA | UK using white card using both dies the outer and inner one to create the intricate detail on them. I Also die cut a solid pink one.
I trimmed one of the white ones as the picture shows.

I layered one of the white ones on to the pink one, and then using the Mousse Peony Pink USA | UK - I dry brushed the trimmed flower. Then I glue it on top of the full one.

I completely changed the colour of a die cut (medium Trellis circle) using the Black Ash  mousse USA | UK.

I stamped the message - Big Sentiments - with Versafine and die cut it using the Advent Drawer Deco Die set – UK.

Finally I added some swirls from other two sets of Beautiful Blooms, Magnolia Flora 1289E - USA | UK and Woodland Aster - USA | UK.

And what about another version? With a bit more pink, like this...

I used for this one:

Beautiful Blooms - Sunburst Gazania 1288E USA | UK
Beautiful Blooms - Apple Blossom 1290E USA | UK
Trellis Square Base Die set 488e USA | UK
Miniature Sentiments - Sent with Love 1254E USA | UK

I hope you like them!

Tonic Studios | Tutorial: How to make 3D flowers with the Tonic Beautiful Bloom dies

I promised on Facebook that I would share a tutorial on how I made the bunch of realistic 3D flowers with Tonic Studios Beautiful Blooms dies I shared earlier.

So here it is. I have made it very detailed so hopefully it all be clear. This is just a way to create them, you can modify any step, simplify them change the colours... Have fun!

For the whole bunch I used:

Beautiful Blooms - Sunburst Gazania 1288E USA | UK

Beautiful Blooms - Gerbera Daisy 1287E - USA | UK (the one on the very left)

Beautiful Blooms - Apple Blossom 1290E USA | UK

Beautiful Blooms - Magnolia Flora 1289E - USA | UK

Beautiful Blooms - Woodland Aster 1285E - USA | UK (red central one)

I also used Beautiful Blooms - Sweet Melia 1286E USA | UK - for some of the leaves.

I die cut six large Magnolia Flora 1289E - USA | UK - flowers and 3 small ones using 120gsm textured paper. You can also use thin card  - 220 GSM or there about. The texture is completely optional.
Using Fossilised Amber (or any yellow) Distress Ink and foam on an applicator I coloured all the flowers.

Then, leaving a couple completely yellow, I coloured some over with a bit of Spiced Marmalade - or any orange.

Finally on the last two I added Festive Berries - or any red distress inks.

The idea is to get an array of different shades that all coordinate.

Then I folded them individually in to quarters and then I trimmed the very centre that becomes a pointy. That it will create a hole in the centre as well as one realistic folds on the paper.

On the second lightest colour flower I made a cut between the petals. Then I put glue on one and layer the next one after the cut over it.

Using the lightest flower, I trimmed one full petal and glued the petals either side.

I put a blip of hot glue and thread the flower through a pipe cleaner..

Then I threaded the other glued flower and secured in place with glue.

For the other flowers, I just scrunches them to create shape on the petals.

Then one by one I attached through the pipe cleaner. Just make sure to push each layer to each other as much as possible.

I applied the smaller flower in the centre. Then. I rolled a the small flower for the centre and make the centre of the flower. (You can make like little stamen by cutting the small petals in a small fringe cuts as in the original Magnolia. )

The main flower is finished, but of course you can add more layers, or make it more shapely by making some more cuts and layers.

Using a green florist tape, I covered the stem. You can also use green washi tape.

For the leaves, I die cut them using them from different sets. This particular one I am using for the tutorial is from Apple Blossom 1290E USA | UK.
I coloured it using a Crushed Olive - or any light or medium green distress ink that you have.

Using the Distress Stain in a darker shade of green - I used Peeled Paint but others will work too - I gently dabb ink in some places to create  some darker areas.

Trim the frilly bits on one end of a pipe cleaner, about 1 inch or so.

Using the Distress Stain I coloured the trimmed end of the pipe cleaner.

I glued it to the back of the leave using hot glue. You can put the wire almost up to the very top of the leave for maximum malleability.

Then I covered the rest of the pipe cleaner using florists wax tape. Twisting and turning a little bit all through.

And here it is the flower and leave. Every time it will be slightly different, and I love that about making paper flowers!

I wanted to add an extra, and I took my Nuvo Crystal Drops - Morning Dew 677N - USA | UK  - and added a couple of drops.

And that creates a dew effect.

So that is how this bunch of flowers was created. Mixing and matching distress colours, timing a few petals - or not -, scrunching layers of petals - or not - its easy! Give it a try.
